Perform - Circular → BEN VINE

THE STORY: 

Imagine being an earthbound Elephant, forced to perform and weighed down by Earth's oppressive gravity. Now imagine being able to travel beyond the stratosphere to where the planet's gravitational pull is so weak, that Würsa can sustain its full weight on its trunk. That is the premise behind Daniel Firman's breathtaking sculpture as photographed on analogue film by Ben Vine, almost as to prove that what he was seeing was possible and real. What might appear to be a simple photoshop trick is a triumph of the imagination over our incredulous minds and limitations, creating an image that doesn't seem to belong to this world.

‘’Presence is a key element in my work: presence understood as keeping one’s mind in the present moment but also understood as the physical space we occupy. Being fully present in the here and now connects us to the world around us and makes our interactions with others more meaningful. My portraits bring these two aspects of presence together in a body of work that aims to transport the viewer away from the gallery space by opening windows into other realities''
